Israelis and Arabs secretly trade

Tuesday, December 27, 2005 |

In hospitals from Saudi Arabia to Dubai, workers were stunned to find supplies marked, ‘made in Israel,’ when most countries in the Persian Gulf ban the use of Israeli products. Sources say this kind of trade has been going on for years between Israel and its Arab neighbors. Egypt and Jordan have been Israel’s official trading partners, but the hidden trade is worth $400 million a year. Others say true imports are impossible because both sides cease to publicize the trade. Most trade is handled through third countries such as Cyprus or the Netherlands, which list products as local.
