At the first meeting of the Likud central committee, party Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu outlined his party’s principles for future withdrawals of the State of Israel. “Our policy is defensible borders for Israel,” he said, taking a stance contrary to those willing to give up every piece of the Land. Criticizing the prime minister, Netanyahu claimed that Sharon harmed Israel’s security when he gave up the Gaza Strip. For the Likud defensible borders include: the Jordan Valley and Golan Heights in the north to Jerusalem and the settlement blocs in the Biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria to the lowland areas near Ben-Gurion Airport and the Gush Dan region.
