Sharon breathes on own; in 'critical, but stable' condition

Thursday, January 12, 2006 |
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will undergo another CT scan Thursday as doctors attempt to deduce the damage to his brain. He is in critical, but stable condition. Sharon is still connected to a respirator, but is breathing independently. During the triple lifesaving operation, doctors sawed off the right side of the prime minister’s skull and froze it for preservation. Doctors will reattach it with wires when they no longer need to monitor his intracranial pressure and feel there is no further swelling in the brain tissue. The question remains: when Sharon fully wakes up from induced coma, will he have comprehension and memory abilities? Photo: An immigrant artist brought his painting of Sharon to Hadassah Hospital.
