The Kadima party met Monday morning to name acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert its party chairman. Olmert was appointed when Sharon was declared “temporarily incapacitated.” Attorney General Menahem Mazuz told Olmert to continue serving as prime minister until the March 28 elections. If Mazuz declares Sharon permanently incapacitated, then government ministers would have to choose an acting prime minister within 100 days from Jan. 4, when Olmert officially took over Sharon’s position. Declaring the prime minister permanently incapacitated is an irreversible decision. Olmert is scheduled to make his first White House visit in early February after the Palestinian elections to create a post-election policy.
