Peres, no longer in Knesset, to meet with Rice

Wednesday, January 18, 2006 |
Former prime minister Shimon Peres will meet US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz and US Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan as just a regular citizen. Serving from 1959, Peres has the longest consecutive tenure of any Knesset member and one of the longest in the history of the world. He resigned Tuesday from the Knesset. This was the first Labor preliminary election Peres sat out of since the days of Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion. “Peres is looking forward to Kadima,” Peres’ spokesman Yoram Dori said. “Rice knows that she is meeting a regular Israeli citizen.”
