Acting PM declares war on illegal settlers in Hebron

Thursday, January 19, 2006 |
Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert declared war on the illegal settlers located in the Hebron wholesale market area and ordered the Israeli army to demolish the nine homes in the illegal outpost of Amona. Nearly 4,000 security and military forces will assemble and carry out the evacuation. The Shin Bet (Secret Services) has said that the settlers of Amona have been particularly hostile and have taken a militant line toward the soldiers. "They see Amona as the place where they'll defeat Israel," Chief of Staff Dan Halutz said. "There are increasing voices calling for establishing the state of Judea and eliminating the State of Israel. It's not a pullout, it's a classic case of law and order." Justice Minister Tzipi Livni said, “the conflict between settlers and the government is a struggle for supremacy.”
