Marwan Barghouti will not be PA Minister

Tuesday, January 24, 2006 |

An Israeli official said that even if Marwan Barghouti, the jailed leader of the Fatah organization, won in elections tomorrow, he would not be a minister in the Palestinian Authority. Internal Security Minister Gideon Ezra (photo) said that the government has no intention of releasing Barghouti in the near future. Convicted in the murders of several Israelis, Barghouti on Sunday gave an interview to the Arab TV station al-Jazeera from his prison cell. The Israeli High Court has allowed Barghouti to grant interviews, but until now he has granted them only to Muslim interviewers.
