Jews, Christian share ‘faith movement’ ideas

A conference comprised of both Jews and Christians took place as part of a brainstorming effort to keep their congregations alive. “Admonishment to believe in God and attend services regularly aren’t enough to help people make sense of today’s world,” said Wade Clark Roof, professor of religion and society at UC Santa Barbara. As a result, Jewish groups have learned some new worship styles from Christians. "There's a very general sense of wanting to find ways to embody faith – to live it,” said Roof. "There's a very deep quest within the culture for that and you find it broadly based." While people feel their identity has been defined by the Holocaust and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, these Jews have found alternate ways to define their spirituality, not only by going to synagogue.
