Hundreds of right-wingers attack army post near Ofra

Tuesday, January 31, 2006 |

Three hundred right-wing protesters attacked the Israeli outpost in Ofra, near Amona north of Jerusalem in an attempt to deter the scheduled Amona evacuation on Wednesday. The group broke through the fence and climbed through heavy machinery. The unit attacked was in charge of protecting Ofra residents and ensuring a secure area, not evacuating Amona. The area around Amona was declared a closed military zone and arrests will be made if necessary, according to security forces, who fear the evacuation of Amona will be violent.
