Web relations: Iranian blogs his way to Israel

Tuesday, January 31, 2006 |

Iranian Moslem Hossein Derakhshan visited Israel despite the risk that he may never be able to return to his homeland. Derakhshan, a 31-year-old reform minded student, came to Israel on a mission: To stop the Israelis from attacking Iran, and to give Iranians an understanding that Israelis “are not evil.” This young reformer immigrated to Canada because of the difficult economic situation in Iran. In 2002, he created the second Persian blog, www.hoder.com which expresses his criticism of the Iranian regime. Now, approximately 700,000 Persian blogs exist. Derakhshan says this is a tool for democratic change in his country as he connects to Iranians across the globe.
