Several wounded in Amona clashes

Wednesday, February 01, 2006 |

Security forces violently clashed with settlers as they attempted to destroy the illegal settlement of Amona, north of Jerusalem. Two Knesset members Aryeh Eldad and Effie Eitan were among the 250 wounded in the clashes. Seven of the nine homes were bulldozed by noon on Wednesday and police reinforcements were called in from all over the country. One policeman was airlifted to Hadassah Hospital after being knocked unconscious by a cement block. Thirty other policemen were wounded and either evacuated by air or ambulance. Thousands of activists were throwing rocks and setting tires on fire from rooftops. Forty-three people were arrested and taken to the Ma'asiyahu prison in Ramle.
