Stabbing victim to be laid to rest

Monday, February 06, 2006 |
Kinneret Ben-Shalom, 53, will be laid to rest Monday after a 23-year-old Palestinian stabbed her in the heart in a minibus near Petah Tikva on Sunday. Ahmad Kafina wounded four others, but was stopped in his rampage by 64-year-old Eli Haziza who ran to the bus from his factory across the street. “I hit him on the legs, he fell and the knife flew out of his hand," Haziza said. "(Another) man with the gun and I held him on the floor.” Kafina claims he attacked the bus for mental reasons, saying he was depressed following his expulsion from Abu Dis University. Kafina, 22, told interrogators that he originally intended to commit suicide, but other passengers prevented him from doing so. But passengers said they heard him yell, “Allah Akbar” (Allah is great in Arabic), the phrase usually shouted before a terror attack.
