Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni met with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Vice President Dick Cheney in Washington on Wednesday in an effort to keep pressure on Hamas and not to recognize them as a state. This is the first of discussions between the US and Israel since the Palestinian elections. "It is important for us that the international community speaks in a loud and clear voice on this issue and that it does not go down the slippery slope the Palestinians are trying to drag everyone," Livni said. Livni is not opposed to giving financial aid to the Palestinian Authority, but suggests that its donors demand from Hamas to recognize Israel and renounce terror.
