Knesset to decide on Amona probe

Wednesday, February 08, 2006 |

The Knesset will vote on whether an investigative committee will be established to study the violent actions of the police in the Amona evacuation last week. The committee would have to determine if the police used excessive violence, including, as settlers have claimed, physical, verbal and even sexual abuse. Security officials claimed they acted appropriately, but Knesset member Effie Eitam who was present at the evacuation will present footage that contradicts police claims. If a committee is formed it would only be in effect until the March 28 elections, after that the new government would have to approve its function.
