Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal told a Russian newspaper that Hamas would not renounce violence as long as Israel remains in the Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Mashaal, however, said that Moscow had taken a valuable step in inviting Hamas to speak with Russian leaders. Russia was the first nation to recognize Hamas and invite the organization to official talks. The government said they would put pressure on Hamas to end violence.
