Israeli Singer Shoshana Damari passed away Tuesday morning in Tel Aviv at the age of 83. Damari was considered the queen of Israeli music and became a cultural icon. Member of Knesset Ran Cohen requested that Damari receive a state funeral, saying that cultural heroes also deserve such an honor. The Knesset released a statement saying, “Her voice unified the whole nation and spread optimism and hope.” Damari was born in Yemen and immigrated to Israel when she was 2-years-old in 1925.
