Six months after the government’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, 30 percent, or about 8,000 people, are still homeless. The evacuees are living either in hotels, dorms or tents. According to the Gaza committee for settlers, only half have received partial compensation for leaving their homes or have been given a down payment to purchase a new home. “Everyone is responsible for this. The evacuation of Gush [Katif] was well planned; there were 20 months,” Dror Vanunu international coordinator for the Gaza committee said. “All the ministries, SELA [the Disengagement Authority], [and Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon himself share the blame.”
