Police: Israel experiencing new terror wave

Thursday, March 02, 2006 |

In the third terror attack in as many days, a 30-year-old man was wounded after being stabbed in a northern Jerusalem industrial zone Thursday. The perpetrator was apparently a Palestinian who fled the scene. Police said the motive for the attack appeared to be nationalistic. Meanwhile security forces warned that Israel was in the midst of a new wave of terror attacks. On Wednesday, 72 terror warnings were recorded, 12 related to concrete threats, security officials said. They said that since Hamas won the Palestinian Legislative Council elections, there had been a sharp increase in stone throwing, firebomb and stabbing incidents. "The violence in recent weeks is what we describe as a popular or people's uprising, and could worsen," one security official said.
