Livni says Israel must prevent humanitarian crisis in PA

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said it is in Israel’s interest to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian Authority. Livni said that if the situation worsens in the PA, the international community would show more leniency toward the militant Hamas organization. Israel is therefore considering working with humanitarian organizations to assist the Palestinian population. Meanwhile, a European Union official reiterated that the EU would stop payments to the PA Authority once Hamas takes power unless certain conditions were met.
