Twenty-year-old paratrooper Ido Shapira from Haifa was shot and killed on Thursday during a heavy exchange of gunfire between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian gunmen in Jenin. The soldiers surrounded a house filled with fugitives from the Al Aksa Martyrs’ Brigade and Islamic Jihad terrorist factions. When soldiers called on the terrorists to surrender, a fierce gun battle began and Shapira died on the scene. “He was an extremely smart soldier who enjoyed every moment of his service one of the army's specialist units,” Shapira’s father told Israel Radio.
