Israel ready to cut off all PA relations; Abbas’ moment of truth

Monday, March 20, 2006 |

Israel is considering cutting off all relations with the Palestinian Authority over the composition of its Hamas-led government. Hamas formed its government without including other Palestinian parties in its coalition. Any party that ever negotiated with Israel in the past was automatically excluded from the coalition. Israel said that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ moment of truth has arrived and he must decide whether or not he wants to take part in a terrorist entity. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said that “does not conceal their intentions and their basic principles, and is a bid to turn the Palestinian Authority into a terror authority.” Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat responded, “I think that Abbas will give them a chance.” Photo: Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh (l.) hands the lists of his cabinet members to Mahmoud Abbas in Gaza yesterday.
