Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz decided on Monday to open the Karni border crossing that links Israel to the Gaza Strip. Security officials were skeptical of reopening the Karni crossing because of constant security alerts and intelligence information they had received concerning terrorist attacks. The crossing will open for only a couple of hours to transfer basic goods out of a fear a humanitarian crisis will erupt in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Authority agreed to open another crossing in the south, but only to receive goods from Egypt and not Israel.
