Attempted suicide bomber caught on outskirts of Jerusalem

Police arrested a suicide bomber with a 5 kg (11lb) bomb on his way to the capital. The suspect and another man were stopped by police in a van near Kibbutz Sha’alabim near Latrun just on the outskirts of Jerusalem. Israel declared a heightened state of alert on Tuesday afternoon in the Jerusalem and central Israel region after intelligence information revealed that a suicide bomber was on his way to Jerusalem. The bomb was immediately neutralized by the bomb squad. Security officials halted traffic completely in both directions on the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Highway before they apprehended the suspect. The detained terrorist is believed to be a member of Islamic Jihad.
