Police close Temple Mount due to threat of clashes

Monday, March 27, 2006 |
Security forces immediately closed the Temple Mount after receiving a warning that right-wing Jewish activists and Moslem worshippers might engage in pre-election confrontations. The police have significantly increased their presence in East Jerusalem, especially on roads leading to the Old City. Police will prevent visitors from entering the Temple Mount on Election Day. The Special Elections Focus Military intelligence received information that terrorist organizations of Islamic Jihad and Fatah are trying to carry out attacks against Israel. More than 70 warnings of planned terror attacks have been registered for election week alone.
