An ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect distributed leaflets to children saying that voting in the elections is forbidden and that Zionists aided the Nazis during World War II in order to promote the Jewish state. Haredi Jews, adherents to the most theologically conservative form of Orthodox Judaism, believe that only the Messiah should restore Israel to the Jews. In the leaflet, an elderly man tells his grandson that World War II was seen by the Zionists’ as an opportunity to create a nation, but it cost the lives of 6 million Jews. The leaflet describes Zionists as an evil Satanic force that abuses Haredi children. The pamphlet has drawn mixed emotions, even among the ultra-Orthodox. Rabbi Eliezer Berland slammed the publication and told his followers to vote. But he also said that the injustices of the Zionists should never be forgotten or forgiven.
