The deadly Avian Bird flu virus was found in the vicinity of Jerusalem on Kibbutz Ma’ale Hahamisha on Tuesday. The Agricultural Ministry is preparing to cull 30,000 birds on the kibbutz. The flu was recognized at noon on Tuesday when an unusual number of birds were found dead. Agricultural Minister Ze’ev Boim praised the health services for their quick response to the dangerous outbreak. Veterinary services will destroy the poultry within a thee-kilometer radius from the affected site. Ma’aleh Hahamisha is one of the 14 locations in Israel where the bird flu virus has been found. Israel has culled 1.2 million birds in the past nine days. Poultry farms have been compensated for 50 percent of the direct economic damage they suffered from the culling, an estimated 24 million shekels ($5.4 million).
