A gas canister exploded early Thursday morning in Haifa’s Neveh Sha’anan neighborhood injuring 21 people. Haifa’s Police Chief Ahuva Tomer said the initial investigation showed that the explosion was caused by an accident and was not a criminal incident. Eyewitnesses said the sixth floor collapsed completely and the seventh floor partially. Police evacuated the residents out of fear the building would totally collapse. One person was seriously injured and another 17 were treated for shock. Two were moderately injured by glass shrapnel; among the injured were three small children. The city has set up aid centers to assist residents from the apartment complex.
