Galilee residents took cover as a tornado swept through villages in northern Israel on Tuesday. The tornado spewed hailstones as large a ping-pong balls, cars were overturned and electricity polls were broken in two. More than 75 people were lightly injured from the hailstones and car accidents caused by the storm. The storm caused severe damage to crops and orchards, even uprooting some trees in the region. “It seems that the conditions and phenomena that took place in the area match the condition of a mini-tornado that took place in the western Galilee. An event of this kind is very rare in our region,” said Dr. Baruch Zvi, a climate expert at Tel Aviv University.
