Young Arab boys and girls who used to spend their time throwing stones at Israeli soldiers are now occupying themselves with more important things, such as playing the violin. The Yunis music center in northern Israel, opened thanks to donations. Wafa Yunis and other teachers give lessons for stringed instruments to Arab children. She expects a budget from the Israel’s Ministry of Education to carry on her work. Yunis began recruiting students in Jenin, inviting young boys and girls to join her music class. She said boys like Osama and his friends used to throw stones, but in Wadi Ara, where her class is they don’t throw stones anymore. Osama’s family has welcomed his violin adventure. His uncle said they go to the roof of their house and drink coffee while Osama serenades them.
