Shalom: ‘People have left Likud, I can bring them back’

Monday, April 24, 2006 |

Likud Knesset Member Silvan Shalom (r.) said on Monday that the struggling party needs new leadership to survive. “We have to take quick action. The primaries process should be completed within 30 days. We barely scraped the twelfth mandate. We are in debt millions of shekels. Branches are closed. And Bibi is writing books,” Shalom said criticizing Benjamin Netanyahu. He also condemned Netanyahu's response to Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza as a reason why the party lost ground in the recent Knesset elections. “People have left the Likud because the Likud left the people,” he said. “I believe I can bring them back.”
