The Jerusalem District Court placed Yisrael Valis, the 19-year-old suspected of beating his son to death, under house arrest on Tuesday. Valis was arrested earlier this month after police said he admitted to repeatedly beating his son who died in a Jerusalem hospital on April 10. Valis will be under full house arrest at his grandparents’ home under electronic surveillance and will not be allowed to attend synagogue. The ultra-Orthodox community is welcoming Valis home with open arms as they worked around the clock for his release. Valis’ arrest caused days of rioting in the ultra-Orthodox Haredi neighborhoods.
