Soldiers investigated for alleged rape of 11-year-old

Tuesday, May 02, 2006 |
At least 17 Israeli soldiers are under investigation in the alleged statutory rape of a young girl who lived with her family on an air force base in southern Israel. Media reports have put the girls age between 11- to 13-years-old during the time of the alleged crimes. The soldiers claimed that the girl lied about her age, saying that she was older, and that the sex was consensual. The family has since left the base and the girl is under psychological care, the army said. According to media reports, the girl, now 14, told military investigators that the sex was consensual and that she had lied about her age. One of the suspects said that the girl initiated the sexual encounters. The army has been investigating the case since March, and charges are expected to be filed soon against the soldiers.
