Member of Knesset (parliament) Moshe Sharoni of the Pensioner’s Party suggested abolishing kosher laws on food products to reduce the costs. The idea came up during a Knesset session where Sharoni was frustrated with the rise in bread prices. “Everyone here talks about the increase of bread prices,” he said, “and everyone screams 'gevalt'.” Sharoni’s controversial suggestions spurred an uproar especially among orthodox MKs. “You should be ashamed, are you a Jewish Knesset Member,” remarked Zevulun Orleve, member of a religious party. Another source said that Sharoni’s remarks do not represent the Pensioner’s Party.
