Olmert lands in Washington, meets with US president

Monday, May 22, 2006 |
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert landed in Washington early Monday morning for meetings with US dignitaries including, US President George W. Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. The agenda includes Iran’s nuclear program, Israeli-Palestinian relations, and Olmert’s convergence plan to withdraw from more territory. Olmert will present his convergence plan to President Bush, but will not go into detail. It is suggested that Bush will give Olmert support for his government, but will avoid backing his plan to unilaterally set Israel’s borders. Olmert also said that Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas was too weak to represent the PA since “he has no power.”
