Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said that the Hamas government is prepared to agree to an extended ceasefire if Israel withdraws to its 1967 borders, hich would mean giving up half of Jerusalem. “If Israel withdraws to the 1967 borders, peace will prevail and we will implement a ceasefire [hudna] for many years,” Haniyeh said. “Our government is prepared to maintain a long-term ceasefire with Israel.” Haniyeh, however, failed to mention the Hamas charter, which denies Israel’s existence. He expressed dissatisfaction over Israel’s calling the Palestinian Authority “the Hamas government.” He said he prefers to be referred to as “the Palestinian government.” Haniyeh said support for Hamas is increasing daily and soon they would have full support in all of Gaza.
