Civil Rights: Internal Palestinian anarchy on the rise

Wednesday, May 24, 2006 |
The internal anarchy in the Palestinian territories has come at a high price: 103 Palestinians have been killed in internal confrontations since the beginning of the year in the Gaza Strip. There have been 29 kidnappings, about 100 attacks on the central government and civil institutions and nine explosive devices detonated with the intention of assassinating organization leaders. This data, published by the Association for Civil Rights, was released the same day that the annual Amnesty International report was published on world human rights. The chapter in the Amnesty report that spoke of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict says that in 2005, the Israeli Army killed 190 Palestinians, including 50 children—in the West Bank, while 51 Israelis, including 6 children, were killed in suicide terror attacks by the Palestinians. The report says that, “This past year there has been a decline in violence although the fact is that attacks from both sides continue.” by staff writer
