Religious Zionist rabbis avoid 'civil war' at all costs

More than 20 rabbis of the Religious Zionist Movement signed a petition rejecting incitement against the government. The Religious Zionist Movement has been facing an ideological crisis since the withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and now with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s convergence plan. The initiative was sparked by Rabbi Eli Sadan who voiced concern against using violence towards the majority in the country. The rabbis said the public needs guidance during this time of crisis. “Despite of, and more so because of, our deep pain,” the document read, “we won't be dragged into civil war, we will raise no hands on each other, and we will work hard to strengthen unity among our people.” Those who signed the document said unity should be preserved at all costs.
