Hamas, Islamic Jihad reject PA Chairman Abbas' ultimatum

Monday, June 05, 2006 |  Natanel Doron

The armed faction of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and three other Palestinian terrorist groups refused on Monday to accept Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ deadline for adopting a proposal that, among other things, recognizes Israel. Meanwhile, negotiations between the factions have been taking place in order to end the internal clashes. Yet, sources believe that chances for compromise are slim. Hamas’ special forces have been deployed on the streets of Gaza as they await Abbas’ announcement of the referendum on Tuesday.
