About 43,000 Israelis purchase new TVs leading up to the World Cup soccer tournament in Germany, prompting a 24 percent increase in number of sets imported compared with May of last year. The average price of the televisions purchased increased by 108 percent, as thousands of Israelis opted for televisions with large LCD screens. Soccer is perhaps the most popular sport in Israel with basketball a close second.
