Basel Abu-Dahal of Ramle was indicted in the Tel Aviv District Court on Wednesday as he was caught on tape murdering his 24-year-old sister Miriam, stabbing her 29 times in the parking lot of a Bank Hapoalim. The video shows people walking by and doing nothing and Abu-Dahal casually walking away with his knife. A passerby found Miriam and called paramedics who were unable to resuscitate her. Police apprehended Abu-Dahal nearby found with bloodstains on his clothes. He told police he murdered his sister for the improper way she was raising her daughter, claiming it was an ‘honor killing.’ Honor killings are a phenomena in Arab communities in which relatives murder their women because they are believed to mar the family honor. Three of 15 ‘honor killings’ have occurred in Ramle.
