HAMAS TO WITHDRAW SPECIAL FORCES FROM GAZA

Hamas agreed on Wednesday to withdraw its controversial special security forces comprised of terrorists from public areas in the Gaza Strip in an attempt to put an end to the bloody weeks of clashes with rival Fatah. An agreement was reached after hours of talks mediated by Egyptian diplomats. “They are going to be in places away from the public. They are not going to be visible to people,” said government spokesman Ghazi Hamad. Under additional arrangements, the militia is to be integrated into the official Palestinian police force. Attempts were made to ease escalated fighting after deeper disagreements over PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ ultimatum for Hamas to accept his referendum.
