A continued barrage of Qassam rockets landed in open areas early Monday morning as residents awoke to the sound of the Red Dawn alert system. From Sunday night, 10 rockets were fired at the town of Sderot, but no injuries were reported. Schools remain closed following the city’s security situation. Defense Minister Amir Peretz ordered the army and security officials to prepare to target those involved in Qassam attacks, but rejected the army’s suggestion to intensify its offensive against Hamas. Residents of Sderot went on a hunger strike pleading with the defense minister, a Sderot resident, to retaliate. “We are aware of the danger and therefore have decided to fortify the tent with sandbags, just like they did in 1948 when the State was established,” Alon Davidi, a resident said. Dozens of protesters gathered outside Peretz’s home.
