The day after an Israeli passenger train crashed into a truck and derailed killing five people, rescue teams were still working around the clock. Teams found five survivors in the wreckage. About 80 passengers were reported injured. Many were taken to local hospitals and helicopters were dispatched to the scene to help in the evacuations. The driver of the truck is suspected to having been under the influence of narcotics and is under investigation. Israel Railways Chairman Ofer Linczewski said at a press conference, “The train faced an almost impossible situation. The train's driver operated the emergency brake and honked about 300 meters before the crash, but was unable to stop.” Police said there were approximately 150 passengers on the train.
