HAMAS GUNMEN SHOOT COMMANDER

Wednesday, June 14, 2006 |  Staff Writer

Hamas gunmen ambushed the car of Rifat Kulab, commander of Preventive Security and loyal to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, shooting him seven times in the legs. An exchange of fire erupted between Palestinians in which one Hamas gunman was killed and an innocent bystander was wounded. Kulab remains in stable condition and his life is not in immediate danger. On Tuesday, Palestinian banks in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip froze the bank accounts of Hamas ministers and legislators. Tensions between the Fatah and Hamas factions have escalated since Hamas’ victory in the Palestinian parliamentary elections last January.
