Olmert discusses convergence plan

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, in a meeting with the British Parliament, said that Israel will not retreat to its 1967 borders because they are not defensible. Olmert said that Israel is ready to withdraw from 90 percent of the territories until the final process of negotiations is complete. Olmert also said that it is possible to find a solution regarding Jerusalem, but only with understanding, time and open-mindedness. Olmert was satisfied that he succeeded to convince British Prime Minister Tony Blair of his convergence plan and that there is no Palestinian partner for peace. Olmert told Blair that he should allow at least half a year for negotiations to take place with Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen. Olmert approved earlier this week the donation of 200 rifles by Jordan and Egypt to Abbas’ presidential guard.
