Sderot children suffer from post-trauma

Thursday, June 15, 2006 |  by Staff Writer
Professionals have found that more than 50 percent of the children in Sderot are suffering from post trauma after hundreds of Qassams rockets fell on this Negev town in the past week. These children are afraid to go out in the streets and sleep by their parent’s bed at night. Mayor of Sderot Eli Moyal described the life of these children as defeated, at a press conference with 50 foreign journalists that were brought in a special initiative by the Foreign Ministry, an Israeli Army spokesman and the government press office. Mayor Moyal described the harsh realities of the city’s residents and the accusations of the government who is not doing enough to help the city. Studies have not resumed and businesses have cancelled work because many are afraid to go out. The streets are empty at night and people just do not want to be outdoors. In response to the question regarding the abandonment of the city it was indicated that the phenomenon is not common, but also does not come on behalf of life’s harsh realities.
