Dennis Ross: Hamas seeks Israel’s destruction

Wednesday, June 21, 2006 |  Special to Israel Today
Former US special Middle East envoy and negotiator Dennis Ross made a bold statement, saying that “Hamas is interested in annihilating Israel and see her end.” Ross’ statements came prior to a Jerusalem Business conference, which he will attend next week along with other dignitaries.

Ross’ full statement: “This is a time of paradox in the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. Two historic elections have taken place this year, but have produced completely opposite implications. Israelis seek a divorce, but Hamas seeks Israel’s eradication. Hamas wants nothing to do with Israel, and yet Palestinians remain dependent on Israel. Hamas cannot deliver any of its promises so long as it refuses to accept the conditions of the Quartet, yet it continues to defy the international community. Where do the paradoxes lead? Peace with the Palestinian or negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians? Perhaps, another unilateral move or simply a deteriorating stalemate? US efforts will be necessary to help avoid a deteriorating stalemate, and yet with preoccupation with Iraq and Iran, will the Bush Administration make the effort?”
