Nearly 120 World Cup fans from England, Israel, Germany and Poland gathered at Dachau, the Nazis first concentration camp over the weekend to protest anti-Semitism and hooliganism. “Sometimes the England fans and German fans hate each other. Hating thy neighbor can lead to this, said Mark Perryman of England Fans, an organizer of the event along with Jewish athletics group, Maccabi Great Britain. The soccer fans united as they listened to stories of Holocaust survivors and their horrors at Dachau. Not only did participants from these countries build solidarity at the camp, but also throughout the tournament. “The sane have finally got the World Cup back,” said Ian Lewis, from Chester, England. “I didn't really expect trouble with the Germans, but I didn't expect them or other countries to be this friendly.”
