Soldier in Gaza refugee camp

Tuesday, June 27, 2006 |  by Staff Writer
Israeli army intelligence has said that kidnapped soldier, Corporal Gilad Shalit, is being held in a Palestinian refugee camp in the Rafah area. Mahmoud Abed Ala’al, spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committee, said that the soldier was in a secure place that the “Zionist enemy cannot reach.” The Israeli army is working to prevent the soldier from being moved out of Gaza and into Sinai. Meanwhile, thousands of Egyptian troops have been deployed along the Gaza-Egypt border to avoid an infiltration of Gazans fleeing a possible Israeli army incursion. The Israeli army is attempting to take the diplomatic road, fearing an invasion would put Shalit’s life at stake.
