Israeli army launches offensive in Gaza

Israeli army tanks rolled into Gaza early Wednesday morning and took control of the Dahaniyeh airstrip and the town of Shuk after Palestinian terrorists captured and refused to release Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. “Operation Summer Rain,” was launched after Israel took the diplomatic route for Shalit’s release and failed. Israeli troops from the Givati Brigade have been deployed along the northern Gaza border ready to enter Gaza if Qassam rockets should fall into southern Israel. “We have no desire to remain in the Gaza Strip,” National Infrastructure Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer told Israel Radio on Wednesday morning. “We want to bring our boy home, that's all.” The attacks are to prevent terrorists from moving Shalit to a different location. According to the Palestinian Authority, Shalit is being held in the Khan Yunis refugee camp in southern Gaza.
